What is an energy-efficient fireplace?

The fireplace was for several years simply a decorative element for the living space. However, after the increase in the price of oil, the fireplace took on a primary or even unique role as a source of thermal energy. The question is which type of fireplace suits us. Traditional or energy? The aim is to have a warm place during the winter, saving fuel and money at the same time.

For those who do not know…

  • the energy fireplace provides the warmth of the fireplace but can cover much more square footage than the traditional one, which heats only the space in which it radiates
  • it can can be connected to the existing heating system so as to heat the whole house.
  • with the help of the protective glass that the air always remains warm and can not leave the space of the house. Of course, this glass also helps to avoid fire or bad smell from the burnt wood.
  • It is designed to meet the needs of each space, ie we can vary the amount of oxygen that will enter it, so in this way we control the amount of wood.

Traditional or energy-efficient?

  Energy Fireplace Traditional Fireplace
Running costs Low wood consumption High wood consumption
Safety Prevents the possibility of fire, due to the protective glass it has It does not prevent the possibility of fire
Heating It heats the radiant area, the walls around it and if we wish we use it as a heating source for all spaces, if we connect it with the central heating system, it keeps the space warm since it does not allow the hot air to leave the house. It heats the area where it radiates and does not retain hot air because it is open and allows hot air to escape
Pollution Reduced pollution  Increased pollution
